Boys and their Toys -C4C572

I am so excited to share this card, I love when I get asked to make a card and when I am first asked I am stumped, I love that I have to think about it and figure it out when I’m not sure how to start. Well this is one of those cards. I was asked to make a fun card for a 2 year old that loves big trucks, like dump trucks and loaders. The only thing is I don’t have ANYTHING in my craft room that has anything to do with trucks or loaders. I wasn’t even sure what mechanism to use to make it move. I also had to make a card for this weeks Crazy4Challenges challenge which is a design challenge. It is a bit of a stretch but I think it works.

And here is my double truck card

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

All the cardstock used is from Stampin up and the colours are listed below

Soooo, when I don’t have stamps or diesets I generally google an colouring book image of what I need and I use my Scan n Cut to size and cut my images. If you don’t have a scanning or digital die-cutting machine another option is to print it directly onto the card stock and fussy cut (hand cut) the pieces and “paper piece” them together.

The image I found for the this truck I could only find this angle, it had more lines that I wanted to use so I chose to scan it a bit different.

Here are the dimensions for the card base.

I used Karen Burnistons Spinner Square die set to make the mechanism. I took pictures of the progress but if you really want to make this card please watch her VIDEO I watch the video every time I use this dieset.

I ended up trimming the swing arm pieces that were sticking out above and below the box of the truck. The little piece of the swing arm that is visible to the left of the box I ended up covering with a piece of silver so it looks like part of the truck. (It shows in a photo further down)

Now for the front of the card. When I first started making slider cards I used pennies, but in Canada we don’t have pennies anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️. So I had to use nickels lol. The weight of the coins helps the the truck slide on the track. If I tip it side to side it will glide on its own.

I wanted the “Happy Birthday” to be a bit of a surprise so I hid it behind the loader, and it’s visible when the loader slides to the right.

I added a lot of liquid adhesive as I didn’t want the sequins to fall off. It dries clear.
