Hope “IT’S” a Good One

Calling all Scary movie lovers, today I am sharing my fourth annual “scary movie” themed birthday card. My little bro is a horror movie buff so I have been making him these cards for the last 4 years. (JasonYear 1, FreddieYear 2, MichaelYear 3). There was a lot of trial and error while making this card but it all worked out in the end.

I knew that I wanted to have Pennywise peeping out from the sidewalk. I’m not really good at drawing so I only wanted to see his eyes instead of trying to create his whole face and body. I needed the sidewalk to be high enough to be able to add Pennywise so I decided to try to be creative with the Stage Pop Up. I cut out 2 halves of the Stage Pop up and I coloured one of the centers black. I don’t know why I masked it because the top and bottom will both be covered. I want to make a long rectangle so I cut one of the platforms in half and laid them out as shown.

I cut the cardbase as shown below. I chose a paper that reminded me of a rainy sky, and one that looks like road pavement. I cut a strip of paper that will go on the front and cut out a section in the middle as shown below.

I used the reference photo below to draw the eyes of Pennywise. I ended up thinking the attempt was too big so I made a smaller version so I could also have the balloon.

I wanted the yard and the house in the background. So I cut a hill and grass using the Long Nature Edges and I added shading using alcohol markers. Then added the grass to the back of the card.

The next thing I did was add the stage pieces to the card as shown. I added the original face to the front of the side walk.

To make the top of the sidewalk I cut a strip as shown below. I added the lines and the cracks with a black pen and grey alcohol markers. This is where I decided that the face was too big. I also added the house from the House and Fence Pop Up. I drew Bill in the upstairs window.

So I peeled off as much as I could off the front of the side walk and reassembled the pieces to add the smaller face and red balloon. I also add the path to the house.

I was REALLY over thinking how I was going to make the boat. Then realized it’s a “paper boat” so just make a small “paper boat” 🤦🏻‍♀️. It took me a few tries but with the help of a this VIDEO I was able to make it.

I wanted it to look like moving water so I cut our several pieces diecut from the Patterned Plate Swirls and added to the road. Using the bigger of the two pop up pieces from the Mini Pops. I added the pop up to the card then added the boat to the pop up.

I thought the water was a little too busy so I peeled up bit, I had to cut another piece of dark grey paper (the same as the road) the added it to cover better. I cut out a piece of black and a piece of lighter grey to the dimensions shown below. I added shading and cracks and added it to the bottom as a place to sign.

I hand dew and cut the word “IT” from red as it is in the movie poster, then cut the rest of the letters using the letters from Mini Alphabet and Numbers and added highlights with a white gelly roll pen, then added to the card.

Now for the front…. I cut a dark grey panel to the measurements below. I cut out the second largest oval from the Ovals Crosshatch and a heart from the Hearts Crosshatch. I added shading to the bottom right with a red alcohol marker, and a highlight to the top left and added a string using a white gelly roll pen. I added Happy Birthday in black with white highlight and called it done.
