With a Twist – April design team challenge

I had SOOO much fun with this one, Karen’s Design Team challenge this month was “Thirst Quencher”, we needed to make a card that incorporated a beverage any beverage and since I’ve done quite a few tea cards these last couple months so I decided to make a cocktail card.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I started buy picking the the pattered paper from Echo Park then chose some Stampin Up cardstock to match.

1A- cut the cardbase and panels as shown below.

B- I used a corner rounder (mine is a 22 year old Creative Memories version) and rounded all the corners of the panels and the card. The cardbase was too thick to punch through so I punched it enough to make an impression then cut it out with scissors. I also sponged the pink and purple ink around the edges of the patterned paper and the white paper.

2- I was looking for a quote so I googled “Friends and Cocktails”. I really like the look of mixing fonts when I do longer quotes, for this I used a mix of stamps and dies. Alphabet (large pink letters), Mini Alphabet and Numbers (dark purple letters), Word set 1 greetings (my friend s), Heart Crosshatch , the round letters and the other stamped letters are retired Stampin Up sets. The long banner is from Word set 5 Royalty . I adhered and stamped everything down with the exception of the word “TWIST”. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen

3- diecut and assemble the Twist Panel pop up mechanism (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ )

4A- take 2 of the pattered panels for the inside

B- I wanted it on an angle so I marked then cut slits where I wanted the paper to match up with the mechanism.

C- it looks a little wonky but it should fit around the mechanism on an angle.

The photos below are a bit out of order. Ignore the pink that is visible around the edges.

5A- add the second piece of patterned paper to the other side. The patterned paper is double sided and since the paper is on an angle the bikini print can be seen around the edges when the card is closed

B- I took the third piece of pattered paper and adhered it to the front, back to back with the one on the inside. This way the bikini print is not visible from the front or the inside.

C- to balance the weight a bit I added a purple panel to the back side.

6 A- the inside should look like this

B- add the white panels to the pink panels and then add them to the card the same way as step 4. But opposite angle to the pattern paper.

C- this is currently what the card should look like.

7A- using the decorator dies from the Twist Panel die set, cut out 4 rectangles and 4 striped rectangles. The striped paper is from the same Echo Park paper used for the panels. . I sponged purple ink around the white scalloped rectangles and pink around the striped rectangles.

B- using the Happy Hour Charm dieset I die cut the pieces from several bright colours that match the patterned paper and I used holographic card stock for the glasses. I assembled and I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. I assembled 10. Some of these are make-believe beverages and some of them are real cocktails, I assembled 10 different cocktails.

C- Layer the rectangles and adhere two cocktails per rectangle, and saved two for the front

8A- adhere the rectangles to the mechanism.

B- I added the word “TWIST” I was trying to avoid creating a catch point. A corner was sort of getting hung up on one of the letters so I put a little bubble on that area so it would glide over the catch point.

C- I diecut the cocktail border from the Beach Borders from holographic cardstock then coloured it with Sharpies to match the diecut cocktails.

D- I added a heart that was left over from another card and added some itty bitty gems.

9- I added the extra beverages to the front and some itty bitty gems.

Other Tools used

Fine Tip bottle

Lineco Neutral PH Adhesive

Quick Stick Tool

White Gel pen

Fiskars Trimme
