Sailing Away Birthday Card ⛵️

Last month I had a card that demonstrated how to create an image with a silhouette stamp that didn’t look like I used a silhouette stamp, and today I am creating an image using a line stamp and making it look like a silhouette stamp, this particular card is a great masculine card.

I made this card a little while back and didn’t take photos as I went along so hopefully, I can explain the details well enough😀

Most of the cards that I make that uses a brayer to create a sky, or water or both are generally inspired by Michelle Zindorf and this card is as well. Michelle is a very talented artist with an amazing blog. This is her card that I got inspiration from http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2011/08/10/sailing-by-moonlight-tutorial-443/

The cardstock used for this card is Bashful Blue cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″, Basic Black textured cardstock cut at 4 1/8th x 5 3/8th, and Whisper White cut at 3 7/8″ x 5″ and a piece of Whisper White cut at 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ for the inside, all from Stampin’ Up.

To create the scene I used the first piece of Whisper White Cardstock and masked the bottom half with a piece of scrap paper. I inked up my brayer with So Saffron ink and inked the whole top half. I cut a 1 3/8″ circle mask on a post-it note and put the mask on the card where the sun would be, then I inked up the brayer with Crushed Curry ink and brayered over the first colour but only going 3/4 of the way down. Next, I inked up the brayer with Pumpkin Pie ink and brayered over the first 2 colours but this time only going about 1/2 way down. Then I peeled up the sun masked and very gently tapped a little bit of Pumpkin Pie ink on the sun to just give it a little bit of texture.

To do the bottom first I moved the large scrap paper mask to the top half making sure to perfectly line up the skyline. I inked up the brayer with Bashful Blue ink and inked up the entire bottom half, and then I inked up the brayer with Marina Mist ink and inked up the bottom half of the bottom half completely but then lightly continues up to skyline leaving some of the Bashful Blue peaking through.

Next comes the stamping 😀, I stamped the sailboat with this line stamp using Basic Black ink.

I stamped the birthday greeting on the outside and the inside using the same Basic Black ink. I also sponged the same black ink around the outside of the finished panel and the inside panel.

Now to make the stamp look like a silhouette stamp I coloured in the entire sailboat with a Basic Black marker. If I hadn’t done this step the colour of the sky and water would have showed through the sail. Another option would have been to mask the sailboat and the sail would have stayed white.

The last step was to take a white gel pen and highlight the boat and the waves.
