Hello crafty friends, I am so excited to share my card for the December Karen Burniston design team challenge. This month’s challenge is “song lyrics” and I really want to see if I could make a reindeer Playful Pop up soo I came up with this Rudolf the Reindeer reindeer inspired .

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.
I have a plethora of 4 1/4”x 5 1/2” envelopes so I decided i needed to start making some A2 sized cards. I cut all the panels out as shown. The vanilla paper I am using is very thin so I didn’t bother to cut the centers out but I would have if it had been cardstock.

Adhere the layers together and add to the card base.

I die cut the pieces to the Playful pop up as shown. I actually cut 2 of the top piece (the square with the smile. I also cut the decorative pieces from Animal add ons 3, the pieces for the reindeer. Using the oval from the Animal Add on 3 I cut out an oval out of one of the top pieces, make sure the whole smile piece is inside the oval. I originally brushed brown ink around all the edges, I rounded the bottom of the face piece then added to the mechanism. I found it too dark.

I recut all the pieces to make the face but decided to use a lighter shade of alcohol marker around the edges. I used a white gel pen to add highlights and added all the face pieces to the mechanism.

I decided that the background was too busy so I decided to add a solid colour behind the reindeer. I also wanted to use some of my scrap paper so I used the largest rectangle from the Rectangles Crosshatch, knowing that I was going to trim it down I didn’t cut the whole rectangle. I marked where I was going to trim it. I added the red layer cut as shown, and the vanilla layer was also cut using the Rectangles Crosshatch. I layered and trimmed the edges and added to the card base as shown.

Reindeers have hoofs, but the hoofs from Animal add ons 3 aren’t quite long enough so I cut the paws from the Dog and Cat Playful Pop up Add on trimmed as shown and added the hoofs. I added shading and highlights to match the rest of Rudolf. Then I added the mechanism to the card base. (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ for the Playful Pop up)

I thought Rudy needed a body I cut a piece to 1 3/4”x 1 7/8” and I used a corner rounder to round the bottom edges. The while oval is the same die used for the face. I added shading and highlights to match the head and added to the cardbase. I felt that antlers looked a little smaller when compared to the head so I cut out a second set to add doubles to each side. The leaves and berries are from the Merry Christmas Lorna Label Add On, I trimmed and coloured and added to the antlers which added a bit of length. Then I added them to the card.

I wasn’t having a problem but I thought there could be so I took a 1/2 bubble and added it under the right hoof to make sure that it wouldn’t get hung up on the antler.

Now for the front. I wanted to use the Postage Pop up, and I wanted to have very thin border around it so I used the Postage piece and marked on the red where I wanted to cut, then marked on the brown where I wanted to cut. I used the new Greeting Labels to add the red and the brown layers to the postage pop up. The vanilla layers are from the Postage Pop up.

I assembled the small reindeer from the Christmas Animals. I wanted this little Rudolf to match the one on the inside so I cut double antlers and I trimmed the wreath from the same set to add the leaves and the berries to the antlers. To make the berries first I coloured white dots with a gel pen and when the ink dried I coloured the dots red with a red maker. I used the Mini Alphabet and Numbers to add the name. I hand cut the gift and the large bow is from the Sleigh Pop up. The candy canes are from the Christmas Borders 2, and the little bows are from the Tiny gnomes. Once I finished the postage piece I added it to the card front.

I wanted to add a little bit more to the inside so I added the leafy garland from Fireplace add ons 1, the Merry Christmas from Small Script Christmas, and of course with that cute tongue wagging back and forth he needed a candy cane which is from the Stocking Pop Up

I added a few itty bitty gems randomly around.
