Strips & Scraps Pop Up Birthday Card

Hi, all, so a few months ago I was asked to be a guest designer for the Crazy 4 Challenges blog for the month of May 😊, the first challenge which will be posted on Saturday, May 4th, and the challenge is to use leftover paper, card strips or scraps. As soon as I saw the challenge I knew what scrap paper I would use, it is by far one of my favorite paper packs and I lovvveeee the colour combo, and I have a pile of bits and pieces.

To see the Crazy 4 Challenges blog post https://crazy4challenges.blogspot.com/ it will be posted on Saturday, May 4th 2019

Like I said above it wasn’t hard to pick out what papers scraps to use. The paper I choose is actually double side so the cloud edge scraps on the left side have pink polka dots on the other side, I used both of these on the inside of the card.

To make the striped panel on the front of the card first I cut some of my scraps into strips of different widths, some are 1/4″ some are 1/2″ and some are 1″. I cut a piece of Early Espresso cardstock cut to 4″ x 2″, I added double sided adhesive then started sticking the strips on diagonally in a random order overlapping the edges. I then trimmed off all the pieces that hung over the sides.

I thought I wrote down the measurements of the white panels but apparently, I forgot ☹️ so I am estimating based on the photo. The white panel on the left is roughly 1″ and the white panel on the right is roughly 3″, I adhered a layer of fun foam to the back of the white panels to give it dimension. I glued the striped panel to the left side of an Island Indigo card base, leaving room for the white panel, then I added both the white panels so they slightly overlap the striped panel.

I also cut out multiple layers of Happy Birthday and layered them to give dimension

The inside of the card uses the “Upsy Daisy Pop-Up” die set from Karen Burnistons https://karenburniston.com/upsy-daisy-pop-up/ I followed these video directions https://youtu.be/T_J6RF9y_fs

To decorate the inside I cut white panels for the top and bottom and used the scrap papers with the cloud edges for a top and bottom border and I stamped the greeting.

The three pop up panels were decorated with dies from some of Karen older die sets, Using Stampin Up cardstock Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette, Early Espresso, and Island Indigo.

I added balloons and streamers from Karen’s Explosion pop up die set https://karenburniston.com/explosion-pop-up/

To finish things up I added stars all over the front and the inside and I added some Wink of Stella randomly around the card. The Little stars are actually itty bitty sequins used for manicures.

here is another fun card using this colour combo  https://mymessycraftroom.me/2018/09/23/balloon-birthday/#more-100
