…..and A Happy New Year- December Design Team Challanges

I love design team challenges if for no other reason than it challenges me to come up with ideas that I may not of come up with other wise. This months challenge was “Happy New Year” and I was a little stumped at first and for some reason every time I thought about what I would do the “I wish you a Merry Christmas….and a Happy New Year” would pop in my head. I thought it would be super cute to have singing snowmen.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I wanted the card to open side to side then up. So I cut the card base as shown and the extra panel.

I cut all the panels as shown below and layered. You need 5 of each.

I wanted the Happy New Year to pop a bit so I used the mechanism from the Postage Pop Up. I added 2 of the layered panels to what will be the inside and added mechanism (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ )

Using the Fireworks dieset I cut several pieces from red, silver, and gold mirror card stock then glued matching glitter to each piece. I started by adhering some of the fireworks to the back of the card. I cut some acetate strips and added them to the platform then cut a matching rectangle and covered the platform and the strips.

Cut and Assemble “Happy New Year” from gold and green. The “&” is from Word set 9 Love” and cut fronm the “Hugs & Kisses” and the “a” is from Word set 18- Connectors. I’m trying to remember but I’m pretty sure I hand cut the banner for the “& a”

I added the “Happy New Year” to the platform, and the “& a” to an acetate strip. To help balance the banner I adhered the silver flash to the side of the banner which is also attached to the platform by a piece of acetate.

I dug out some retired Stampin Up border stickers and added a couple of strips to the bottom of the card.

This is when I attached the extra panel, and close the original part of the card. I added 2 more of the layered panels.

I started making the snowmen using the Snowman dieset, Tiny Accessories 1, Tiny Accessories 2, and Bookworm diesets. All the words from the song are from Word set 3- Holiday, Wordset 18- Connectors, Merry Christmas, and Merry Christmas Lorna Add on. (the hat on the snowman on the last page is the top hat that I trimmed to look more like a bowler hat, also the beaded necklace had to be doubled up to fit around her neck) I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. I also added more border stickers.

To make it look like they are singing I added notes from the Music Charms again I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen

I thought it needed a little bling so I added some itty bitty snowflake sequins and gem stones.
