*Crazy 4 Challenges day and the theme this week is to create a card using a wood element, it can be wood grain, wood paper, embossing folders or veneer shapes. I started off with the wood patterned paper and then I found some veneer shapes I TOTALLY forgot I had. I knew I wanted to do this chair for my Dads birthday card and I was able to picture it in my head with the cup of coffee and the crossword book (if you know my dad you know he likes nothing more than sitting outside in the fresh air with his coffee and crosswords) but it’s kind of funny how the whole card came to be, as it wasn’t exactly all planned out lol

To create the pop-up feature of the Adirondack chair I used Karen Burnistons Adirondack Chair (I have her original die set but I believe this new version is pretty much the same with the exception that it comes with a shovel and pail)
The finished card is 5″ x 5 1/2″ and I used Shaded Spruce cardstock from Stampin up for the base. The lighter green and the blue for the sky are both papers from my Costco stash. I cut the card base as per the video linked above. Then I cut out a second chair out of the wood print paper that was from Stampin UP.
I adhered the wood patterned paper to the Shaded Spruce chair. Once I was sure it was stuck on good, I reinforced the score lines so it would be easier to fold.
then I folded the chair
I added the arms and the sky
I got pretty creative when making the coffee cup, I used the wine bottle and one of the wine glasses from the Wine Charms I trimmed them and assembled them into a mug. The mug was cut out of Real Red cardstock from Stampin Up
Then I hand trimmed a little Crossword book and a little pencil. I used Pacific Point and white printer paper to make the book and So Saffron for the pencil which I coloured and drew in the markings. 📖 ✏️
to stand up the coffee cup I made a little pop-up brace made out of acetate, I made it rectangular box-shaped.
I adhered the brace to the chair, the back of the card and to the mug, I used glue dots to do this.
as also shown in the above photo I adhered a matching paper to cover the hole in the card where the chair popped out from.
I added “Love you” with a script die from stash (thrift store find), the lighter blue is the same paper as the sky and the darker blue is Pacific Point from Stampin Up.
I also added the sun and the clouds, both are from dies from Karen Burniston, the clouds are from the Castle pop up and the sun is from her Tropical Scene die set https://karenburniston.com/tropical-scene/
inside is done 😀
Soooo they outside sort of just worked itself out as I went along and it kind of work out pretty neat if I do say so myself.
First I covered the front and back with the same green Costco paper that I used for the inside. I felt I needed a pop of colour and I wanted to tie in with the little bit of colour that I used on the inside (the Real Red Cup, the Pacific Blue book, and the So Safron/Crushed Curry Sun all from Stampin UP) So I went digging through my Costco paper bin and found this brightly coloured Argyle Pattern it looked a little lost so I cut a thin border from the Shaded Spruce cardstock to add to the edge dividing the patterned paper from the green paper. I wanted to tie in the woodgrain paper that I used on the inside to the outside so I cut out the word “Happy” out of the wood grain paper and the shadow out of the sky paper from the inside. I remembered that I had a “Dad” stamp from Stampin Up so I dug that out and found that it also had Argyle pattern to it 🤯so I stamped it with Pacific Pointe ink onto the sky paper and rubbed the edges of the paper across the ink pad.
With the word “Birthday” first I stamped it onto the green paper and cut it into the banner shape, but then I remembered that I had some veneer pieces, I thought I only had stars and I was going to decorate with them but then YAY I found the banner shape so I swapped out the green banner for the pieces shown, I stamped it with Glorious Green ink as that was the closest colour that I have on hand. I found the little veneer arrow which I used as a corner accent. I decided not to use the stars as I felt at that point it would have been a little much 🤷♀️
