This cheeky monkey really cracks me up, I used him twice on this card as I think it adds a little whimsy making this a cute card for a child. When I started this card it was just going to have the Ice cream Sundae with just a Happy Birthday on the front, then I thought maybe I’ll make a Banana Split, and who loves bananas….. MONKEYS. My weird crafty brain turned a card that might have taken about an hour, into a 3 hour project in which I BROKE my BIGSHOT, I almost cried 😭. (Don’t worry I found a replaced on my local buy and sell facebook page) anyway this is how I spent my day.

To create this fun card I used the Ice Cream Sundae Pop Up die set from Karen Burniston. Jinx the Monkey is a retired Karen B die set. All the cardstock is from Stampin Up, colours are listed in the description, the patterned paper is from my crazy paper bin

When assembling the ice cream dish I highly recommend watching the VIDEO tutorial from Karen Burniston. The mechanism is a little tricky to fold so watching the video definitely helped me. A little trick that I do when adhering is I used a little bit of Sticky strip tape, and liquid adhesive, the reason is the sticky strip I buy local is pretty cheap and I don’t know how long it will hold its stickiness, and I don’t like waiting for liquid adhesive to dry, so by using both the sticky strip holds it still so I can keep working, and the liquid will hold it in place for years to come.

I cut out all the ice cream Sundae and monkey pieces. The large bananas are actually made out of the hammock from the Palm Tree Pop-Up , I cut the loops off. I wasn’t sure how exactly I was going to decorate, originally the front monkey was going to hold an ice cream cone, but I changed my mind

I used the green patterned paper for the Ice Cream dish

So this is about where I broke my Big Shot 😭. I cut out the borders using KBs Party Border Blends die set, these went through fine, I went to cut more borders to decorate and I heard a loud Twang, and the sound of a broken piece inside jiggling around so there were no other borders to add 😭

So because I couldn’t use my Big Shot, I had to cut the cake out using my Scan N Cut

When I made the greetings I had to get creative. I had already made the bottom “Happy Birthday” before the death twang but I hadn’t done the other two. I used my cutter and just cut and matted the biggest greeting for the front, and I hand cut the smaller greeting that goes in the inside.

I just noticed that I took the below photo before I trimmed the bottom half of the monkey off,
