Fishing for Fathers Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers grandfathers, step fathers and fathers to be. I’m sharing this fun pop up tackle box full of fishing lures. I am using Karen Burnistons new Fishing Lures Charms, which will be released on Monday.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

My card base is just a bit smaller than a 5”x7”, apparently the envelopes I have are a bit smaller lol. I cut the card base and panels as shown below. You can adjust the size if you want a full 5” x 7”

Assemble the card base and add the panels to the front back and inside.

I am not typically a colour artist. But these were actually pretty fun to color. To get the realistic look I cut half of the Fishing Lures from a white shimmer card stock and half from a holographic card stock. I coloured them with alcohol markers. I looked at online photos of lures as a reference. The bobbers I cut from red and white, and the worms I cut from brown. I highlighted with a white jelly roll pan.

I cut the pieces for the Wide Woven Basket and coloured with three shades of brown alcohol marker. To make the lid I cut another basket but only used the top section.

I cut out and assembled the mechanism for the Parcel Pop Up (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ ) I added a cross bar as shown for a place to add the lures. Then the bottom of the basket to the front of the mechanism.

I started adding some of the embellishments to the crossbar. And then I took a piece of acetate, cut to 2 1/4” x 3 1/2”, and added it behind the lures, with a piece of sticky strip on the top. I’m using a couple of the lures to add stability as the acetate has a little wobble to it. I added the top of the basket to the top of the acetate. if you look close, you will see that I also added a very thin silver thread, it is the closest thing I had to fishing line.

I cut two small layered panels using the dimensions below. I stamped the message on one using the Fishing Phrases Stamp Set , and I added a lure and some thread.

On the second one I just added a lure. It will be a place to sign. I added them to the inside of the card as shown with a few extra embellishments. I ran a thread through all of the embellishments on the bottom half of the card.

I cut out pieces for a border. I layered them and added to the card front as shown.

I wanted the Happy Father’s Day to have the brown layer behind the blue shadow piece. So I took the die for the shadow piece, traced around it, then hand cut it out and layered behind the blue shadow. I lightly added shading to the happy Father’s Day, using a light brown alcohol marker and a blending pen. I added some lures and some thread to complete the border.

I decided to cover the star in the Happy Fathers Day with the hat from the Fishing Boat Add ons
