Romantic Fireplace Valentine

Yes, I’ve got 2 posts this week, yesterdays was the beginning of Sneak Week and today is Karen Burnistons design team challenge. This challenge was kind of a double challenge. We were challenged to make a card using the Fire Place Pop up, and we were all asked to choose a different month/ holiday so there will be a FULL year of fireplace cards to check out. The month/holiday I chose was…….. Valentines day ❤️. My darling husband actually came up with some of the design element ideas in this card (for those of you that know him can you guess what ideas were his 😉) I was originally stuck on how to make the pop up feet and blanket….. And then I saw the new release AND THESE BAM BOXES are a complete GAME CHANGER. With the Bam Box you can make a pop up anywhere on the card, not necessarily on the fold. So this is what I came up with

All the fun is in the reveal, AND YOU NEED TO SEE THESE BAM BOXES IN ACTION, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page. Product links are at the bottom of this post.

This is a larger card but it does fit into an 8 3/4” x 5 1/2” envelope. The cardstock , patterned paper, and stickers used are from a long retired Stampin Up scrapbooking kit.

- cut the card base, I didn’t have a 12” x 12” piece of cardstock so I had to cut it in 2 pieces and connect them (dimensions below)

- cut the panels, I actually cut 3 of the 8” x 5”. One for the front, one for the back, one for the inside bottom. The other 2 pieces make the wall paper and the wall above it.

- before cutting the fireplace front, I dabbed the die onto a white craft ink pad, when die cutting the ink transfers to the fireplace cutout

- dicut the fireplace mechanism, and 5 of the mantel pieces (only 4 shown in pic) and strips to make baseboard and trim. I also dipped the mantel die into dark ink so the wood grain shows up better. HELPFUL HINT- I used full adhesive post it notes to stick the base boards to be able to emboss lines into them it also helped trim the 3 mantel pieces into thinner strips to make the window frame.

- I trimmed the mantle pieces to make a 2” x 2” window frame. I added navy cardstock behind, I drew the snow with a white marker and added a little Wink of Stella to make it sparkle.

- attach the mechanism to the back of the fireplace (Karen has amazing video direction on the product page link at the bottom of this post )

- start adding pieces, the wallpaper, trim, window, and one of the mantels makes the hearth also add a square behind where the fireplace opening will be so there isn’t wallpaper behind the fireplace.

-9- add the fireplace with mechanism to the card.

- I started decorating with pieces from the Fireplace pop up, Fireplace extras 1 and Fireplace extras 2, the bride and groom in the frame are from the Cake Pop up, and “Love” is from the Pop n’ Swap dieset.

- I diecut 3 frames from the Memory Charms dieset to make an end table. The frames make the legs and trim. I cut a rectangle (dimensions in photo) to make the table top and assembled as shown. I attached it to the wall beside the fireplace.

- I added more pieces to decorate from the pieces listed in photos 10. I used the hearts from Fireplace Extras 2 to make the roses.

- here comes the Bam Box, Karen will have an assembly video shortly, I will edit this post with the link when it is available. I made 3 for this card.

- to make the polar Bear rug I folded a piece of paper in half and drew half the bear, lining it up with the card it would fit, then cut it out. At first I was going to trace it onto the polar fleece but then decided it would cut better if I glued the fleece to paper and cut out the whole bear. I trimmed some ears and cut some pieces from the Bitty ball Pop up for the eyes, nose and claws. The claws were the little triangles cut in half.

- add the bear to the card.

- add 2 bam boxes along the edge of the card making sure they collapse into the card not out of the card.

- I cut some thin material for a blanket, and add it to the front of the 2 Bam Boxes.

- add the third Bam Box where you want the feet to go, again making sure it collapses in towards the fireplace. And glue the blanket to it.

- this is the side view of the Bam Boxes

- These champagne glasses are from the new Wedding Charms set, I used a piece of acetate to attach the glasses to the Bam Box so they fold down and pop up.

- the feet I diecut from shoe that are in the Dolled Up charm set and used a fine tip marker to draw on nail polish, and the chocolate bar is from the Love Charms dieset.

So I didn’t plan the closure before I added the Bam Boxes, the Bam Boxes need a closure of some type to keep the card closed. So I had to work it out after.

- I diecut the Long Flaps and closure flap and folded. I diecut 2 of the middle piece from the Long Flaps and Closer from the beige and 1 from green (not all pieces in photo)

- I added the flap to the card back, I wanted to hide the magnets that I was using so I first added a green strip of cardstock along the bottom front of the card.

- I added 3 magnets just above the green strip, then on the flap

- I added a 3” x 4 1/2” panel to the side using the same pattern paper that I used on the inside. I cut strips to frame it the same as the baseboards and trim on the inside. I added the green flap piece over the magnets on the cardbase. I cut another matching brown strip to cover the seam where the original green strip and the flap piece meet.

- I added the beige flap pieces to the inside and the outside of the flap to cover the magnets.

- I finished off the front by adding Happy Valentines say, some stickers from the kit to the panel and another set of Champagne glasses.

- to finish off the back I added another panel using pieces from the kit, the Love you and another chocolate bars.
