Happy New Year, and for my first post of the year I will be sharing my design team challenge card. This months challenge was to create a card using dies from the “First 100 dies” so dies from 1001 to 1100 on the Karen Burniston Website. I decide to use the Katherine Label Pop up and coincidentally it is the first time I’ve used it.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.
I stuck pretty close to Karen’s original directions for this one, and her video can be found HERE
I made a 5”x5” inch card base and panels to the dimensions shown below. The colour is Melon Mambo from Stampin Up and patterned paper is retired SU.

I wanted a lot of layers, so with the card base, the inside and outside layers there are a total 5 layers. I did use a thin white cardstock but I still knew the label die would not cut through all the layers. I used Post it notes with full back adhesive to hold the front layer to the card base. I marked the middle then ran through my Big Shot. As you can see it cut through the panel and indented into the cardbase. I then diecut again cutting out the label from the cardbase. I then used the Post It strips to hold the inside panel in, placed the die in the cardbase cut out and die cut again. Now all panels have the label cut out in the same place.

I adhered the panels to the cardbase and this is what it looks like. Before adding the front panel I added a square of acetate to act as a window, then add the front layer.
Using the nesting dies in the set I made a couple of frames and the label for the pop up. I added Happy Birthday to the label. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen as shown.

Cut, assemble and add the Katherine Label mechanism to the cardbase.

As per Karen’s directions I added the panel to the mechanism. Sorry about the too bright pic. I also added the frames on both sides of the window.

I have matching bakers twine so I ran the twine through some glue and created some swirls. I left it out to dry on a plastic mat over night. I die cut and assembled pieces from Birthday Charms and the balloons from the Explosion Pop up dieset. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. On some of them I sponged pink ink along the edges.

I added swirls, and the diecut pieces starting from the bottom left to the top right, for both the front and the inside.

I cut a smaller set of layers, I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen and cut to fit in the bottom inside corner for a place to sign.

I added itty bitty gems randomly around the decorations.

I always love your cards, they are so creative and I often use them for inspiration for my own. I’ll definitely be making this one!

Thank you for sharing, I really like your card. I have that die also but haven’t use it much. The Katherine pop up die is easy to use so not sure why I don’t use it. I had a cuddle bug for years and I really Loved it, now I use a Big Shot and don’t know why I waited so long to get it.

Great birthday card. It’s great seeing some of the “old” dies in use. I use the original Gemini die cutter and the Anna Griffin mini empress
