Backyard Buddies Birthday Card

There is a bit of a benefit when some of your family doesn’t follow your blog or your social media ( or anything on the internet ), you can post their birthday card before their birthday 😜 sshhhhh

This weeks Craft Roulette Parameters weren’t too difficult, so I decided to give myself a couple extra challenges, 1 was to make a pop-up card that works with the rest of the parameters, and 2 was to make it masculine. CR parameters ⬇️

One of the challenges for me was to find patterned paper that was the colour of “Flowering Fields” but could still be used on a masculine card. The colours on the stripes look like they were painted on.

Masculine Balloon Bouquet

I had so much fun playing Craft Roulette last week that I thought it play again. This weeks perimeters are “mini drop down”, colours “from patterned paper”, it has to have a “bouquet”, and at least 3 layers. I chose to use the Pop n Swap die-set from Karen Burniston, and instead of a flower bouquet I made a balloon bouquet. I dug this patterned paper out of my stash, and I actually have 4 layers.

Champagne Birthday

When I saw this paper I knew if I teamed it up with this die-set it would make a fun masculine birthday card, and I think I was right. I needed a birthday card for my son who was turning 24 on the 24th that’s what makes it a champagne 🥂 birthday (in case you were wondering what a champagne birthday is 🥂 🎂)

For anyone who typically follows me you may notice that I will be making a few changes. I am trying to stream line my blogging a bit as I am finding it quite time-consuming. I have decided that since the majority of my cards, I use die sets from Karen Burnkston. Karen makes amazing videos, so if she has a video that explains the assembly of her mechanism or other dies I will link it. I will still give dimensions and helpful hints, and will definitely still explain any changes I make or other important info. The links I share are to her product page for that item, scroll down the page and she has video directions. Because of these changes I will add the links as I work my way through the post instead of at the end. So there in no mix up on what dies I used for each steps.

Vacation at the Lake, designer challenge card

Welcome back, today’s card is for the Karen Burniston design team challenge. This months challenge was “Vacation” and she asked us where we would like to go. I scratched my head a bit with this one because I don’t typically go on “Vacation”, not that I don’t go anywhere it’s just that I don’t typically consider it a vacation. Thinking back on the years of the vacations we went on while raising our children we typically went to my home town. But is “home” a vacation? And the more I thought about it, I decided yes, it was. I was raised in northern Ontario on the north shore of Lake Huron, but I’ve spent my adult life in the Prairies, so when ever I have taken my family there it has always been a fun time, hanging out on one of the many beaches or relaxing at my parents feeding the chipmunks, squirrels and a sneaky racoon peanuts and what ever other snacks that were handy. Once the seed was planted in my heard there was no turning back, and this is what I came up with.

I am not typically a colour artist, but I have been just drooling over some of the amazing cards by Jennifer Webster and thought I’d pull my markers out to add a little dimension to the some of the elements on this card. I don’t give directions as I am just winging it, lol. I used some older Stampin Up alcohols markers and some Chameleon Alcohol Markers

The perfect gift….

This card is a bit late this week, it’s my hubby’s birthday card and I had to wait to post it until after I gave it to him. I had a lot of fun playing with the patterned paper for this card, I have a huge pile of different black and white patterns, and I will have to play with it more often. It’s hard to tell in some of the photons but I used 3 different shades of green as well
