Cascading Butterflies

IT’S NEW RELEASE DAY!!!!!!!! And what a great release!!!! So many fun options it was hard to decide where to start.

The first set I decided to play with was the Cascade Pop up. In all honesty when I first got the chance to play I had been sick for 2 weeks and I was not feeling very creative. I told myself I would go into my room for 15 minutes, and if I wasn’t feeling it, I would try again the next day. Well when I sat down I saw this gorgeous glittering butterfly gift bag that I had purchased before I got sick (I totally forgot about it) I thought that the butterflies would look beautiful flying up the Cascade pop up,

Here is the bag, and then I picked out some matching cardstock. I went with the pool colours and black. I cut open the sides of the bags to see what I had to work with.

I made a 5” x 7” card buy cutting 2 pieces of black that I attached end to end, then I cut the other layers as shown, and assembled.

Introducing the new Cascade Pop up… This fun mechanism will have 3 platforms that are slightly offset each other. Karen will have an assembly video soon. The way the mechanism is assembled, the middle layer has a slot cut out of it to bae able to attach it to the mechanism. Karen also has a separate die that will cut the slot out of any shape but because I was not feeling well my brain couldn’t figure out where I was going to cut into the butterfly to get the desired effect so I cut the circle and added it to the mechanism. At this point I thought I was going to have a side fold card

I fussy cut some of the butterflies, then took a a black marker and inked around all the edges to give them a more finished look. I started by adding the middle butterfly but first I traced it onto the circle and cut off the parts of the circle that would have been visible and only left what was needed to attach the butterfly. At this point I had decided to turn the card and make it a top fold card, I thought that it would make the butterflies look like they were flying up instead of to the side.

I added half a circle to the bottom platform and added a butterfly to that. Then I added one to the top platform and a small one to the front of the mechanism.

I wanted to come up with a different way to make a border so I cut a straight edge along the bottom and I cut the lines between the butterflies with my paper trimmer, then fussy cut around the outside of the butterflies.

I used the circles from the Cascade Pop up, layered them and stamped the greeting from the Stage Scenes Clear Stamps and added to the card with a little butterfly. I peeled up the bottom butterflies so I could tuck the circle under them. I added a couple other butterflies.

Now for the front.I decided to make another border the same as the inside, except I wanted this one vertical.

I cut a few more circles and stamped Special Delivery Clear Stamps I cut Happy Birthday using the Happy Birthday Lorna Add on

I didn’t like that the circle was showing through the Happy Birthday, so I cut the frame from black and took out the centre piece. and pieced it inside the Happy Birthday. I adhered it down from the back, added some foam adhesive and added it to the card. Do you see the difference?

I also didn’t like the black from the border against the black from the card front so I cut a thin strip of the matching cardstock and slipped it under the butterflies and the border. I added some itty bitty gems as shown.

I added the trim to the inside as well and bedazzled with the itty bitty gems.

I am very happy with how this card turned out.
