Barnyard Bash

I just love how this card turned out and am excited to share it with you today. Today is the Karen Burniston design team challenge day and the challenge for May is to “make it fluffy”. I have a fluffy sheep, fluffy clouds, and fluffy icing on my cupcakes. I decided to make this barnyard bash card for my Granddaughters first birthday card. Her stuffed cow is her favourite so I thought I’d make her a cow with all her barn yard buddies.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I cut the cardbase and the layers as shown. I cut the centers out of all 3 red and 3/4 white to lesson the bulk. Layer as shown.

Add the layers to the card base as shown below.

So this is how I was going to have the inside but change my mind after I added the barn. I’m just showing my process so you can see a card can be changed mid process and still turn out good and sometimes better.

The green and blue panels are 4 1/2” x 6 1/2” I used the Farm Edges to cut out the hill with the tractor. I cut it out from red as well, coloured the wheels and added shading and highlights. Now set it aside to add to the hills that I will create a few steps down.

I cut the small rectangle shown and cut the fold into using the shown die from the Barn Pop Stand dieset. I added it to the card. So I wouldn’t have a fold in a fold I carefully used a craft knife to slice it up the middle. If I was thinking ahead I would have just cut it into the one green panel and the hill piece.

I cut and assembled the barn from the Barn Pop Stand, I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ ) I cut doubles of the fence from the Farm Edges and layered them to thicken up the fence. I added a long section to the right side and a small section in the left. I attached it to the back side of the front piece of the barn.

Using the Long Nature Edges I cut out several hills and rows of grass. I brushed on green ink across the edges. I added highlights with a white Gelly roll pen and add the pieces as shown. It also helped to cover the edges of the mechanism piece.

I cut out and assembled all the animals. (The front cow and the horse are not in the photo) and birthday pieces (all links will be at the bottom of this post)

I diecut both mechanism pieces from the Mini Pops and added the small one to the front left of the barn and the larger one to the front right of the barn. The horses it added to the right and a cow with a cupcake is on the left.

It’s hard to see, but I cut out another piece of fence, the same as the first and added it to the back section of the barn. I needed another place to add animals, it’s hard to see, but that is where I attached the pig. the chicken and turkey are added to the front fence. The chick is added to the little piece of fence on the left side of the barn. The goat is attached to the horse tail. And the sheep and is added to a signature Square.

I used the smallest 2 squares from the Squares Crosshatch in the brown and the white. The red layer I cut to fit in between the brown and white layer. I added all the birthday elements. I also added some itty bitty gems randomly around.

I added a piece of 6 1/2” x 4 1/2” stripped paper to the front. Then added 6 pieces of a thicker twine as a border. I diecut 2 of the largest and of the next size down in the colours shown of the Banners Crosshatch. Using the Alphabet , the Numbers and the “Birthday” stamp from the Birthdays-Belated Stamp set and added them to the banner as shown. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. I tied some twine in a knot and added as shown.

I layered the banners as shown, added a birthday cow and a few itty bitty gems to finish it off.
