Hoppy Birthday- Design team Challenge

I’m running a little behind, but today is the Karen Burniston design team challenge. This card takes me back to my punch art days. I always found it fun using shapes to make other images. This months challenge is “Set Sail”. You you may be wondering what does a frog have to do with a boat. Well, she said we had to use a boat, but she didn’t say how. Look really close and you will see that the mouth of the frog is made out of the new Boat Pop up die set.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page, or TikTok 😊

I thought my frog would fit into a 5 1/2” square card, dimensions below.

To make the tongue, I used the die that is meant to be the seat of the rowboat, and die cut as shown. Only die cut the section shown so you can add length to the tongue. Draw the rest of the tongue and cut with scissors.

To make the mouth diecut the boat from green, the floor and the supports from black. Assemble the boat as usual (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ )

When adding the tongue connect the top half as per Karen’s direction, but don’t connect the bottom, it just hangs. The little black tab that comes up from the back will need to be glued flat to the back of the mouth.

Using ovals from the Oval Crosshatch, (I did not use any of the ovals with the crosshatch, I used the ones in between) cut 2 of the largest oval without the crosshatch, one will be the head, and one will be the body. I used the mouth to measure where I need to cut the head in half. (A fold in a fold doesn’t work very well)

I rubbed Versa Mark along the edges off all the pieces. I used the medium oval for the belly, and 2 hearts from the Hearts Crosshatch for the legs. I used the larges of the 5 petal flowers shown from the Fun Flowers set. I also trimmed the top of the body oval so it would fit better.

I cut the flowers to make the toes.

Cut 2 borders as shown.

Start assembling the frog as shown. I drew on nostrils with a Versa Marker, and to the tongue I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen

To create the eyes I used the small circle from the Circles Crosshatch for the Whites, and 2 circles from the Circle Tagbook for the green part, and the black pupil. I added highlights with a white pen.

I created the fly from the Flower Pot Pop up with black cardstock and vellum.

But she still needed arms, this had me perplexed for a bit but then I realized that this piece from the Pirate Ship add on would be perfect. ( so technically I’m now using 2 boat sets )

I thought she needed flowers so I pulled out my container of precut flowers, and added some to her front as if she was holding them. It helped to cover her hands so I didn’t have to worry about fingers (do frogs have fingers?)

Using the new Birthday stamps and a green marker I stamped the greeting, purposely leaving the “e” off of “hope”. The greeting and a place to sign was diecut from the Circles Crosshatch.

I added a few clear bubbles around the 1/2 circles. I added a few spots to her legs to match the frog that will be on the front.

To make the “Hoppy Birthday” greeting I cut Happy Birthday, the Happy Birthday Shadow, and the “o” from Sending Love. Swap out the “a” in Happy, with the “o” from Love. The rest of the greeting was cut using the Word set 18 Connectors

Also cut out the 2 Largest Crosshatch Circles from the 2 shades of pink.

Our little Froggie, lily pad, flowers and fly are from the Bayou Animals. I ended up cutting and flipping the lily pad. Add all these elements to the circles.

I found a piece of ribbon in my stash so I added it, before adding the circle. I also added a few clear bubbles randomly around.
