Some Buggy Loves You- November Sneak Peak

Welcome crafty friends to my sneak peak of Karen Burniston’s November release, and I have to say that it is such a fun release I know that I say this every time but all I can say is WOW!!! This is such a fun release!!!!

I couldn’t wait to play with the Playful Pop Up set so this is the first card I made. I also used the new Bug Border, and the Greeting Labels set along with the Bug Greetings stamps. Each Playful pop up has 4 moving arms, and I am using 2 so this fun card has 8 moving arms.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I decided to make a 5 1/2” square card, and I dug out this 8” square pink patterned paper pack. I cut the layers as shown below, I cut the centers out of the red to conserve cardstock and to remove some of the bulk. In the pattern paper pack there was only 2 of each pattern. But I wanted there to be 3 matching panels so I cut the pink polka dot paper 4” x 5” and the striped paper to 5” x 2”. I overlapped the paper to make a 5” x 5” panel.

This is what the panels look like, the panel for the front is slightly different than the inside panels, but it is close enough for me. Then I added the panels to the cardbase.

I started cutting out the pieces the Playful Pop set. I didn’t do it for this card, but after the design team got playing with this set we realized that one of the arms bent a bit so Karen suggested that for the mechanism (shown in green on this card) we should use a light weight card stock (65lb) but double it. Karen will release a tutorial video soon. For this card I glued the patterned paper to white paper and cut the piece that looks like it has a smile. I assembled 2 mechanisms, I added one to the right side of the card in what will be the original manner (again Karen will have a video soon). I attached the second mechanism to the left side of the card, attaching it to the left side of the right mechanism. Make sure all the arms move freely.

I wanted lots of little buggies on this card so I used the lady bug, the beetle, and the leaves are from the Playful Pop up. I also made a Bug Border. I cut the bees from the border. If you cut every other bee from the border you will get a complete bee as some of the wings overlap. To make the bees I also cut them from vellum to get the translucent wings. The butterflies are from the Butterfly collage add on I love adding highlights and shading to all my elements, if you look at the photos you will see the difference between the elements that have the details and the ones that don’t.

I started added elements to the card. I put them on the inside moving arms first, then worked my way out. Making sure to open and close the card after each element to make sure I am not catching on anything. I also added 2 of the boarders to the inside.

I have a helpful hint. I found that the arms that the bees are on are quite close to the cover piece so the bees get snagged on the upper part when the card is closed. So I took a half of a bubble (or half pearl)and glue it to the arm to make a little spacer. It made it so the arm is forced a little lower so the bees can clear the top piece and tuck under when the card is closed.

I stamped the Bug stamp on to the new Greeting Label, it is the largest in the set, but it layers nicely with the labels from the Rectangle and Labels Crosshatch set (green and red labels). I stamped the image horizontally and vertically, but decided it would fit better on the card front vertically. I added the third border and some left over embellishments.

I used dies from the same sets, just different sizes to add the greeting and a place to sign I added the greeting to the left side of the left mechanism and the other label to the lower right side. Last but not least I added some itty bitty gems randomly around the card.

Thanks for joining me! I am a paper crafting enthusiast who has a special interest in interactive cards. I get a lot of inspiration from the internet so I thought that I  would throw out my own creations with hope that it inspires someone else.
