Rainbows and Fairies

Good morning crafty friends, today I am sharing my July Karen Burniston Design Team challenge and this month’s challenge is “Rainbows”. At first I was stumped trying to come up with a unique way to make a rainbow card. I decided to add little rainbow coloured fairies and have them colouring the flowers in the rainbow colours. So if you look closely, you will see there are bits of some of the flowers that are not coloured in to imply that the fairies are colouring in all these nature elements.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I haven’t use the Tag Book Pop Up in a while (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ ) I cut 3 white tag panels, and one hinge. I cut 3 cloudy skies patterned paper using the tag die and cutting just over half of the tag. And I cut three patterned green tags but then cut the hills using the hill die from the Long Nature Edges. Connect two of the white tags using the hinge piece. I added the sky and hills to the front and inside and the third white tag to the back to help even out the weight of the card.

I cut an assembled the tag book mechanism for the inside. I decorated the small tags the same way I decorated the large tags. The cloud pattern is the same just different colors.

I stamped the Rainbow Greetings and diecut and framed using dies from the same Tag Book die set and added it to one of the squares in the mechanism. Then added the mechanism to the cardbase.

I mapped in my head where I wanted each colour of flower and the fairies. I diecut all the elements below from white (all the links will be at the bottom of the post) and coloured using random alcohol markers that I have. I don’t teach the coloring, as I am not a colourist. I just play around until I get the desired effect. I started with red and coloured the stripes on 3 rainbows, the mushrooms and the fairy. Then continued as shown, orange flowers, yellow flowers, green leaves….. and started adding these pieces to the cardbase. When making the fairies I wanted to give them a little wand. So I cut silver strips of card stock and added itty bitty manicure sized gemstones in each of the rainbow colours for each of the rainbow fairies. I added white Jelly Roll pen for highlights, and Wink of Stella to give the wings some shimmer. The orange fairy is sitting on the mushroom, I did that by cutting off her legs and then glue them behind at a different angle.

Continuing with blue then purple flowers. I left some white spaces on some of the elements. I continued adding pieces to the card.

I added the white arch from the Rainbow Add On to the back of 2 of the rainbows, I used the large Tag die to cut the rainbow to fit in the corner of the inside of the card, making sure they would fit both sides. I glued the bottom half of the rainbow down then trimmed the top to fit around the arm before glueing the top half down.

I wanted the Happy Birthday to be rainbow so I traced the shape of the greeting onto white cardstock and used all the random markers to colour the stripes. I diecut and layered then added to the card front. I cut the third rainbow, the same as I did on the inside and added it to the front. I cut and coloured the sun, added clouds and another fairy to finish off the card front.

I added white, and gold sheer ribbon and off white string to each of the tag holes.
