Label Challenge Card

Today is my first official challenge blog post as a Karen Burniston design team member, and I’m so excited to share this card 😊. The challenge this month was “Labels” and I was in a bit of a pickle. I own a LOT of KB dies but I don’t currently own any of the “Labels” dies. I placed an order but was concerned they wouldn’t get to me in time so I reached out to fellow design team member Karen Aicken who lives in the same province as I do and asked if she could die cut a few pieces for me, and not only did she send me what I asked for, she die cut pieces from 3 different Labels sets in black and white. Thank you Karen, without your help I wouldn’t have this lovely card.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I had a comment when I posted my last card that she appreciated that I had posted my mistakes, but kept on working on that card. We all make mistakes but I always try to best to find a solution and keep moving forward. This card started with a goofy mistake. I cut the card base in the wrong direction. It is supposed to be a side fold card and I had cut a top fold card 🤦🏻‍♀️

All Cardstock and Paper that I used in this card are from Stampin’ Up! The pattern paper was purchased years ago and the colours used our Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantelope, Petal Pink, Island Indigo, Pool Party, Pear Pizzaz, black and white.

- I cut it the wrong direction so I cut this Calypso Coral card base down to make two panels that are 81/2” X 3 3/4”

- cut 2 polka dot panels to 8 1/4” X 3 1/2” and I sponged matching Calypso Coral ink around the edges.

- attach the polka dot paper to the Calypso Coral panels.

- cut 2 Crisp Cantaloupe panels, 1 is 9” X 4” and the other is 9 1/4” (9 1/2” would have been better) X 4”, score at 9”. I tapered the ends of the 1/4” flap

-6- adhere the panels together

- add the patterned panels to the card base (notice they are a little short. My dimensions above are correct I cut wrong. So I am putting a border across the bottom. If your measurements are correct the border on the bottom would be optional.

-9- I cut 2 strips of coordinating paper to 3/4” X 8 3/4” and sponges the edges with Pool Party Ink.

-11- I cut 2 Pool Party strips to 9” X 1” and add the patterned strips to it

- add the border to the card base.

- diecut the mechanism from the Paper Frames popup.

-15- start working the folds as shown. The Center has a Valley fold in the middle and mountain folds on the top and bottom, also fold the pivot points top and bottom of both label sections.

- fold the little flaps on each side of the mechanism

- flatten out the mechanism again and add adhesive to the little flaps on the sides

-19- making sure the Center fold of the mechanism lines up with the Center fold of the card and attach the mechanism to the base

- work the folds again as shown (the original folds done in step 15

- pop up the middle set of arms.

-23- cut diecuts from the Labels Crosshatch set in black and white. I sponged the white ones with Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, and Pear Pizzaz. I added them to the card as shown. I decided to offset the black and white labels instead of nesting them. It gives them a bit of a different look

-25-I try to die cut as many flowers at a time. So I basically use every flower die I have in all the colours. Most of the flowers and leaves are from the Woven Basket, Flower Pot, and Flip Frame diesets.

- Diecut Happy Birthday from white and the Happy Birthday Shadow from black

- I sponged ink on the Happy Birthday With the same colours I used on the labels.

- adhere together

- I cut a panel for the front to the same dimensions as the inside panels. The only difference is it is on a Pool Party panel instead of Calypso Coral. The side border is Calypso Coral 3 3/4” X 2” with the Patterned paper 3 1/2” X 1 3/4” sponged with Calypso Coral.

- attach to the card base

- cut and colour some labels same as inside

-add the labels an HB to the card front

-35 start adding flowers and leaves to inside and outside. I also added a Love diecut to the las label on the right side

- close up, I also added little clear bubbles and some gem stones.

- close up of the left side

- close up of the right side
