Oilers Themed “Happily Ever After”

Hello, today I’m sharing a card that was an extra special request. The recipients will be celebrating a milestone anniversary and apparently they are huge Edmonton Oilers fans. So I had the dilemma, how to make a pretty card with a hockey theme. I’m glad she gave me lots of notice, because honestly I was kind of stumped. But in the end this is what I came up with.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I thought the best way to combine the orange, blue and white colours would be to have them in flowers (flower links will be at bottom of the post) and I decided to add them to the Arch Pop Up. I want the flowers to have some depth so I diecut the blue flowers from a light blue cardstock. I originally just used 2 darker shades of alcohol markers then added white Gelly roll highlights. I then decided to add a little bit of navy blue.

The orange flowers were also cut from a lighter shade of orange and used 2 darker shades of orange and white pen highlights. For the white flowers I used grey alcohol markers to add shading, with blue dotted centers.

I cut the cardbase and layers as shown. I cut the centers out of the blue and I also embossed the white panels with swirls(retired Stampin up but any swirls will do), and assembled as shown.

I cut out the pieces from the Arch Pop up (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ ) , and thought I’d try something but didn’t think it through so I had to fix it on the fly. I cut the solid arch from the Rainbow Add On and thought I would put it on the backside of the arch to cover the slots BUT I added it before I added it to the card so the slots were now unusable 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I just used glue and glued the little tabs exactly where they would go if the went through the slots, I only had to do this for the front arms because I did not add any of the other arms.

It was also requested to have Oilers jerseys on the happy couple soooo I had to fussy cut and draw them. I used the coat from Santa and Gnomes set and trimmed as shown. I used a white gel pen to add the white lines. To make the jersey fit the Paper People body I had to cut the arms off the person and add them to the jersey and then add the jersey to the person. I wanted him to be covered front and back because when opening and closing the card, you see glimpses of the back.

I decided to make the lady a little smaller so I narrowed up the jersey a bit and cut out a bit of her middle and I assembled her the same as the first character. Originally I made her a stripped skirt but decided that I didn’t love it so I changed it to a white skirt.

I made a large vase using the popcorn bucket from the Movie Night Charms and added the flowers. I also added the flowers to the arch then the vase to the left arm. I added the couple to the right arm. I cut the frame using the pieces from the Whirly Wheel.

I diecut Happily Ever After twice from blue and orange and layered. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. I made a matching border and wrapped it in a white ribbon, with a knot bow. I added the border and some matching flowers. Then some itty bitty gems around the flowers and the arch to finish it off
