Succulent Mug Birthday

I know i’ve said it before, but I always love how my Craft Roulette cards come out. I have another card that never would’ve been if I hadn’t been playing Craft on Friday.

This is how I met the parameters, it is a birthday card. So that one was super easy. Succulent colours are the greens and the sky blue, the pink and yellow are from the blooms that some succulents will have. Waves are in the pattern paper. And the butterflies move in a waving motion when you open and close the card. And my mug is front and center.

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page.

I found this pattern paper in my stash right away. And found some greens and blues that would work with it. I decided on an 5”x 7” top folding card. I cut the card base panels as show below and attach them to end.

I cut three each of the layers for the panels. And one for the back of the card as shown below. Layer and add them to the card.

I cut the mug from the Tea and Coffee Pop up. I used a blending brush to add shading to the sides and bottom right of the mug. And a white gel pen to highlight the top left of the mug and handle.

I cut pieces from the Flower Pot Add On, Beach Bar Tiny House Add ons, and the Palm Tree Pop Up sets to make the succulents. I trimmed the flowers to make the succulent in the middle and trimmed the palm tree to look like a plant as well. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. I used a greeting from the Photo Memories Clear Stamps and stamped the centre of the mug.

The butterflies are also from the Flower pot add on set. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen.

I created a border with the dimensions below. And added all of these elements to the front of the card.

I cut the teacup, saucer, mug and mechanism from the Tea and Coffee Pop Up. With a blending brush I added shading to the teacup and saucer. I took advantage of the stencil feature for the teacup. The mug was cut from pattern paper, I cut the handle off and added shading to the two sides and bottom. I also added highlights with a white jelly roll pen. Using an X-Acto knife, I cut a slit in the saucer, around where the lip of the sauce would be. I folded the mechanism as shown.

I wanted more succulent options. So I cut pieces from Woven Basket the Flower Pot Pop up, and Fireworks sets.

I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen. I trimmed and layered pieces to make them look like succulents. I filled each of the vessils.

I marked the mechanism where it needed to go in order to keep the tea cup, and plants within the limits of the card. Then added the mechanism. (Karen has a video on her Product page on her website.) I knew I was going to place the tea cup a little higher up the mechanism so I needed a longer arm. It is twice as long as the arm in the set. I cut both from clear acetate. Add the long arm to the mechanism.

Again, because I knew I was putting the tea cup higher I wanted to extend the base of the mechanism so I would have a place to adhere the teacupto. So I just took a piece of card stock and glued it to the front of the mechanism. I then added the saucer piece to the bottom left making sure to keep the plants inside the limits of the card. I added the tea cup, and then I added the patterned vase to the back of the card to the left of the teacup as shown. I added the yellow butterfly to the top of the acetate strip.

I needed a place to sign. So I cut layers to the dimensions below. And the second border piece that was cut previously and added as shown. I added the shorter acetate arm to the back of the yellow butterfly, then added the pink butterfly to the end of that arm. I added a little plant and a butterfly to the bottom of the signature block.

My cards all need a little bling. So I added itty-bitty gems randomly to the front and inside of the card.
