You Arrrr a Treasure

Sneak peek week continues for the Karen Burniston June release….

I needed a really special card, for a very special little girl, my sweet granddaughter. Pirates wear pink right? Well this one does, and a pink sparkle eye patch that matches her shoes…

All the fun is in the reveal, to see this card in action please check out my FACEBOOK page, feel free to join if you would like to share your own crafty creations. You can also see a video of this card on my INSTAGRAM page, or TikTok 😊

I knew I wanted to make a card with double pop ups so it needed to be a gatefold. I wanted it to be an asymmetrical gate fold with one side bigger than the other. Because the pop ups are both tall, one side needs to be closed before the other can close. This is how I did it…..

Cut the cardbase to the dimensions below, and add the second flap to the base. The largest section will be in the middle, the next largest on the left and the smallest on the right. Cut the navy panels and the blue patterned panels as shown.

I sponged the edges of the patterned paper with Pretty Peacock ink (from Stampin Up) then layered them onto the navy panels then onto all the sides and flaps of the cardbase.

To make the pirate ship first I had to cut the Boat Pop up pieces, then the Pirate Ship add on. I sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink (Stampin Up) and assembled (Karen will have a assembly video soon) add all the sails and flags and add to the card.

I thought it would be super cute to have a treasure ready to be buried on an island. I cut the large section of the island to the dimensions below. The other section is 4 1/4 long and hand cut the beach line. I added the Palm Tree Pop up (Karen has a video tutorial on the product page at the link ⬆️ ) I added shading to the palm tree with a Versa Mark ink pad.

Using the Pirate Borders and the Set Sails Borders I decorated the island. The coins around the treasure chest are cut from the small circles for the porthole in the pirate ship. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen

To create my pretty pirate I used the Tiny Gnomes set with the Tiny Accessories 1, and added the hat from the Pirate Borders. I added shading with a Versa Mark Marker, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen

Loooove these new Stamps and I used the pirate stamps on the Hexagon Crosshatch , and sponged the edges. The octopus is from Ocean Animals, die set, and the turtle and shark are from the Sea Animals set. I added one of the sentiments on to the beach with some of the extra treasure pieces.

I added the second sentiment on the left flap, with 2 of the Set Sail Borders. I added a few extra pieces of the pirate ship as well.

The card didn’t want to stay closed so I decided to add a belly band. Instead of measuring I just loosely wrapped a strip of navy cardstock loosely around, then fold at the corners at the edges. Then wrapped a piece of the blue patterned paper with inked edges.

Diecut 3 Hexagon Crosshatch in the three colours as shown and layer. I added Happy Birthday with pink glitter paper. The sea horse and shell are from the Sea Charms set.

I drew lines on the belly band where the largest hexagon will line up, then added glue between the lines, and added the hexagon. To clarify how to open I added a couple of white arrows from the Waterfall Card

After the fact I decided to add a ribbon pull. So I stapled a piece of ribbon and a piece of twine to a small rectangle of cardstock, then glued that to the back of the left side of the hexagon. I glued another piece of cardstock over the stapled section then trimmed it flush with the edges of the hexagon.

What’s an ocean scene without a Mermaid , and I added a few left over pieces from the inside and front. This little scene is hidden behind the hexagon/belly band and can be scene when it is removed.
