Roses are Red, and Pink— Tribute to Joanne

This is a special post, this post is part of a blog hop that is in tribute to Joanne Grzelak, she was a member of the Crazy4Challenges blog group before I was asked to join, and even though I didn’t get the privilege to know her personally after viewing some of her work I felt I’d like to pay my respects to this very talented lady by joining in this blog hop. We had a few options to choose from and I chose to use one of her cards as inspiration to make my card. After looking through her blog I found this card that she posted on Saturday, May 9, 2015, that she named “The Crazies Appreciate Teachers”

I decided to pick a green leaf patterned paper from my Costco stash, the paper was 12″x12″ and it had a solid green panel in the middle. I also used black and white cardstock from Stampin’ Up

I started this card off with the Rose. I decided to stamp a rose stamp from Stampin Up (sorry it’s retired) and I stamped it on Shimmer cardstock

I pulled out my old Stampin Up alcohol markers in Cherry Cobbler and coloured in the rose

Then I trimmed the cardstock to a 3″x3″ square

I was going to use alcohol markers to colour the background but the colour I had wasn’t working right so I sponged it with Gable Green ink.

I took a black marker and ran it around the edges.

I missed a few photos in the middle sorry. The card base is Basic Black cardstock cut and folded to a 4 1/4″x 5 1/2″ card. I wanted a really thin border of white cardstock so I cut 1/8″ off the top and side and adhered that to the black card base. The green leaf patterned paper was cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and I used a black marker to add a black edge around the paper.

I cut the black band (under the green band) to be 2″ x 4″ and I cut the green band to be 1/8″ shorter on the top and the sides. I stamped the “Wedding Wishes” greeting (retired SU stamp) with black ink on to the green band. I used a scalloped edge die to cut the black border and added it to the band. I added fun foam to the back of the band and added it to the card front.

I was just about to add the Rose but I didn’t think the sponged green ink was the right colour so I added Certainly Celery and Wild Wasabi to make it a little darker. I made it darker as it got closer to the edge and kept it lighter closer to the rose.

I added Sticky Strip to the bottom half of the rose and Dimensionals to the top half and adhered the rose to the card.

I only had coloured 1/2 pearls so I used a Black alcohol marker to colour them black

I cut another piece of leaf paper to 4″ X 51/4″ and adhered it to the inside of the card. I added the inside greeting to a banner that I cut from a piece of leftover green leaf paper, it was close to the middle of the sheet so it has a section of the solid green, I liked how it looked so I chose that piece, and I ran my black marker around the edges and adhered it to the inside.
